Suze M. Joseph

M.Ed, LPC, NCC, CCMHC

I am a native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti who grew up in Canada and Boca Raton, Florida. I received two Bachelor of Science degrees from Florida State University (Go Noles!) in both Psychology and Family and Child Sciences. I subsequently received a Masters of Counseling & Development with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Winthrop University in 2016. The Winthrop Masters program has been accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in South Carolina. I am also trained in Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). While I don’t exclusively practice Christian counseling, I do identify as Christian and my faith plays an important role in my personal life. I am happy to incorporate faith-based solutions into therapy at the request of my clients.

Over my 10+ years in the field, I have worked with a variety of populations- including clients dealing with substance use, individuals experiencing homelessness, and survivors of abuse such as domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. While my primary career focus has been trauma, I also have extensive experience working with anxiety and depression, PTSD, grief, religious trauma, eating disorders, life transitions, women’s issues, immigrant victims of crime, and human trafficking.

My general approach to therapy incorporates elements from multiple theoretical approaches to best serve my clients. Working with those in vulnerable and underserved communities has been an integral part of my career. My hope is to help destigmatize the topic of mental health in our communities. I subscribe to Lindy Alexander’s belief that it is a privilege to be able to bear witness to someone’s story when they may not have had the chance to tell it before. If you are on the fence about getting counseling, or wondering if therapy is right for you; I would love to answer any questions you have because I know how scary and uncomfortable it can be to reach out for help.
